Pastor T’s Desk: “Developing a Spirit of Generosity”-JULY 2017

God has and always will be generous in His love towards mankind, there is no need to look any further than John.3:16, which clearly reveals His generosity towards everyone in the whole world.

John.3:16.”For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”

That surely is the ultimate example of sacrificial generosity, His only thought was and is for the good of mankind

His generosity is all embracing, no matter who you are or what you have done, the answer is to realize that through His generosity all who accept His Son Jesus as their personal savior can become a totally new person and develop an equally generous spirit towards others.

2.Peter.1-4. Teaches that we have not only been GIVEN EVERYTHING WE NEED to live a life pleasing to God and we also have been GIVEN GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES that through these you may become a PARTAKER OF THE DIVINE NATURE. (Paraphased)

Gods generosity is totally embracing, and it is through the application of our faith in Him and his Word, we have the potential to develop a generous spirit.

No matter how generous we may be or become ours is but a faint shadow of the Lords ultimate measure of generosity towards those He loves. However! believers need to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord in doing so they can in time develop a truly generous spirit that will have a positive effect upon the church activities and its members.

Every genuine act of generosity is a seed planted, which in turn will produce an abundance of fruit and more seeds. The reason the word genuine is used, is because every acts of generosity should be from a heart committed to the Lords will and purposes, never for personal gain or reward.

Matthew.6:19-21. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroys and thieves bark in and steal; outlay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”

2.Corinthians.4:7. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellent of the power may be of God and not ourselves.”

Following his conversion the Apostle Paul became a generous giver of everything he possessed , his life , his position, his ministry for the benefit of all believers. 2.Timothy.4:7-8.
There appears to be three main areas of generosity which are interlinked and can essentially be included in the general term “Treasure” these should be developing as believers grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, these can be considered under the following categories:-

1. Our Time 2.Our Talent 3.Our Treasure

1. Acts.2:41-47. Always be generous with time for the Lord and His people. Committed and faithful attending church, prayer, reading the Word.etc Hebrews.10:25.

2. Matthew.25:14-30. Romans.12:1-8. Always be generous with the talent (ministry) given to every believer. Matthew.25:14-30, Jesus told in the parable of the Talents, one man received 5, another 2, the third only 1 Talent by their master who went away for an undisclosed time.

Two men used and multiplied their Talents, the third did nothing with his. A long time passed before their Lord returned, the day of ACCOUNTING, had arrived, the first two men received rewards for their diligence, the third was judged and found wanting!
Paul, Romans 12:1-8, taught every believer is given a gift or talent, whatever the Lord gives us whether it is a ministry gift, or ability to sing or worship, we are expected to be generous with whatever gift we have for the benefit of others and the extension of the Lord’s kingdom.

Proverbs.9:10a. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might”

N.B. When we consider the subject of “OUR TREASURE”, this is probably there most difficult area most believers will encounter, I have often said usually the final part of a real conversion experience is the realization that if we claim to be “Walking by Faith” and not committed to giving Tithes and Offerings, then we are NOT WALKING BY FAITH!
Factually Tithing is our first real test of our faith!

3. Malachi.3:8-12. 2.Corinthians.9:6-8, v.7 “For God loves a person who gives
To give cheerfully, in actuality means that generosity to others comes from a heart that fully appreciates what the Lord has done for them through His sacrifice on their behalf. Contextually 2.Cor.8-9 is in connection to providing generous support for other struggling believers.

Conclusion:- It is impossible to cover every aspect of developing a “SPIRIT of GENEROSITY” Basically it is positive response to everything that the Lord has and is doing for those who believe in Him. The Lord’s generosity towards us cannot be measured in human terms, it extends from our salvation to the glory that is prepared for us in Heaven, an Inheritance Incorruptible and undefiled. 1.Peter.1:3-5.

1.Corinthians.2:9 “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man.The things which God has prepared for those who love him”
