THE PASTORS DESK – October 2015

Introduction:- Ecclesiates.3:1-8 & 15. This short passage of scripture taken from the N.I.V, has the heading “A TIME FOR EVERYTHING” in reality this literally means that nothing ever remains the same, things around us and our lives are constantly changing and very few people actually experience totally similar lives. In fact life is a constant challenge particularly the period of time in which we live. The Apostle Paul pulls no punches when he in 2.Timothy.3:1-9, briefly describes the godlessness that will be common during the last days. Preferably I personally prefer the N.K.J. version which says “But know this that in the last days perilous times will come” perilous literally = times of stress! As we look around us and at the various news broadcasts we can either see on the TV, hear on the Radio, are see with our own eyes, these things Paul refers to are actually taking place at this present time in various parts of the world including our own beloved South Africa.

In the midst of all this uncertainty, of wars and financial chaos we can thank God that we have been saved through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who remains the one certain constant in these troublesome times. He is the same yesterday, the same today, and will be the same tomorrow. Hebrews.13:8. God is faithful to His word and promises. Therefore we who are established in Christ Jesus our Lord have nothing to be afraid off. Hebrews.10:35-39 says to us “Therefore do not lose your confidence——–“ v.23 of the same chapter also says “Let us hold FAST TO THE CONFESSION OF OUR HOPE WITHOUT WAVERING, for HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL. Personally I love the word “THEREFORE” meaning this is the conclusion the writer has reached.

  1. Timothy.2:11-13, “This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with HIM. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He will also deny us. If we are faithless HE REMAINS FAITHFUL; HE CANNOT DENY HIMSELF

Hebrews.10:19-25. Is particularly applicable to the church, that Jesus is building Matthew.16:18, great emphasis is placed upon the absolute need to understand two important principles. Firstly we can enter BOLDLY into the Most Holy place through our Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly in verses 22-25, we are encouraged to take every opportunity to:-

v.22, “Let us draw near———–“

v.23, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope———-“

v.24-25. a. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.”

  1. “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but     exhorting one another, and so much more as you see the DAY approaching”

Finally as you are aware there has been a change in the leadership at the Cornerstone Family Church. Almost ever since my wife Eileen and arrived in 1994, we were fully aware that this would probably the last church we would lead as Pastor and wife in a fulltime capacity. From the beginning of our ministry here in Port Elizabeth we saw tremendous changes in the people who began to attend this assembly. In our hearts we realized that the best course of action to pray for was that from with the church there would be someone who would manifest the signs of a Pastor who could eventually take over the role of Lead Pastor. After some it became evident that Linda Mtshali and his wife Zama, were the ones who were being equipped to become the future leaders of this assembly. Consequently my wife and I continued to seek the Lord for confirmation that they were the ones the Lord had selected.

Without making the story any longer on the 30th August 2015, they were ordained by our Group Leader Pastor Donovan Coetzee as the new lead Pastors of this church, with Eileen and myself stepping down into the roles of becoming the Father and Mother of this church.

We personally thank God that already we can see the Lords hand upon Linda and Zama, plus there is a new enthusiasm is sweeping through the church under Linda’s leadership. We also praise the Lord that Eileen and I have been privileged to lay a strong foundation that a new and younger generation can build upon. 1. Corinthians.3:6-15, we can only trust that we have laid the foundation that the Lord desired for this church and other ministries build upon.

Finally we plead with you all to stand fully behind Linda and Zama, as they work together to lead the church forward, to the Lord’s glory. They need all the love and help you can give them.

Blessings to all.
