The Pastors Desk – December 2015 | January 2016

THE PASTOR’S DESK DECEMBER 2015 AND JANUARY 2016

We usually combine these two months during the time of what is commonly called “The Festive Season” We place these months two months together primarily due to the fact that so many of our members will be taking their annual vacation time during this period, university and college students will also be taking time to visit their families plus a enjoying well earned break from their studies.

Generally 2015 has been a good year for the church as we have our vision statement “MOVING FORWARD” actually taking place throughout the year. In any church change is inevitable nothing ever remains the same, the Lord does not stand still and the Holy Spirit often takes us along new paths of development and direction we had never considered possible. Paul the Apostle said, 2.Corinthians.5:7. “We walk by faith not by sight” Understanding these words is easy once a person or group of people understand that if you can “see” what will eventually happen it is not faith. Faith trusts the Lord in all circumstances, and without faith we cannot please the Lord. Hebrews.11:6.

This year my wife Eileen and I have seen the Lord bring into being part of the vision we had for this church almost from our early days at the Cornerstone Family Church. From the very beginning of our ministry here in 1994, by faith we believed much of the vision was connected to when a day would come for us to step down from being the Senior Pastors, and that the Lord would have raised up a “Son and Daughter of the House (Church) to take over the reins of Senior Pastors of this assembly. By the grace of God this has taken place when we stepped down at the end of August 2015. We truly believe that this was the right time and the right couple to take over leadership of the church. For ourselves a goal that I personally desired has been fulfilled, in that we have completed 40 years in full-time ministry with the Assemblies of God.

We also particularly want to thank all members of the church for the graciousness and appreciation you have shown to us, particularly for the love extended to us during the Celebration Week culminating with the special Meeting and Dinner held at the City Hall where we were honored above and beyond our expectations. We thank you so very! Very! much, our words seem so inadequate to fully express our love to everyone for your kindness towards us.

Referring back briefly to the 21 years spent at Cornerstone, we believe that by the grace of God we have laid strong foundations in the church, that are ready to be built upon by others younger than ourselves. We thank God we have been instrumental in raising up young men and women who have been grounded in the word of God, with an ability to minister God’s word under the anointing and revelation of the Holy Spirit. In fact we have been surprised by the quality and quantity of ministry that exists within the Cornerstone Family Church. Already we can see that there are several very capable young people who in time have all the necessary qualities to enter into full time ministry and we have every confidence that this will be taking place within a relatively short space of time.

With the vision we have had in 2015 of “Moving Forward” now is the time to look even further forward to 2016 and beyond by “Keep Moving Forward by Faith”. Isaiah.54:2-3. We truly believe that Cornerstone will indeed become the Lighthouse of the Central area of Port Elizabeth and expand the vision into other parts of the City. Do not lose the momentum that has started, continue to build and establish the word of God, as the Holy Spirit will lead and direct you forward in the coming years.

We are living in difficult and trying times whatever man may say or try to do in their strength will inevitably fail. Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem of this world, let us always remember the words of Hebrews.12:1-3, three times the words “LET US” are used to which as I conclude wish to bring again to your attention, they are simple yet profound.

  1. LET US THROW OFF EVERTHING THAT HINDERS AND THE SIN THAT ENTANGLES”
  2. LET US RUN WITH PERSEVERANCE THE RACE MARKED OUT FOR US”.
  3. LET US FIX OUR EYES UPON JESUS, THE AUTHOR AND PERFECTOR OF OUR FAITH”.

Each one of these three statements is personally related to every believer and is essential if we are to walk by faith in victory.

MANY BLESSINGS FOR CHRISTMAS AND THE NEW YEAR, MAY THE GOOD LORD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS.
